Ibn Taymiyya jedoch sieht es als eine Frage der gesellschaftlichen Konvention (Tradition/Sitte/Abkommen) an. Er sagt:
„Gold- und Silbermünzen haben weder eine natürliche, noch eine schariarechtliche Spezifikation. (Ob sie als Zahlungsmittel benutzt werden) hängt also von den Menschen ab, von ihren Gewohnheiten (Brauchtum) und gesellschaftlicher Übereinkunft,“¹
… so dass schlussendlich jedwede Ware als Geld dienen könnte.
„Auch die sich derzeit im Umlauf befindlichen Münzen (deren Tauschwert höher angesetzt war als ihr tatsächlicher Warenwert) dienen also, genauso wie Edelmetalle, zur Bemessung des Wertes von Waren.“²»
