Sheikh Afif al-Din (Yusuf ibn Ali ibn Ahmad, besser bekannt als) Ibn Baqqal der Hanbalite (gest. 668 n.H.), erzählt, dass er während seiner Zeit in Ägypten über den Massenmord informiert wurde, der in Bagdad während der Invasion der Mongolen stattfand.

Als er von dieser katastrophalen Tragödie erfuhr, sagte er, dass er sich äußerst unwohl und innerlich aufgewühlt fühlte und dachte: „Herr, wie konnte das passieren? Es gab unschuldige, reine Kinder unter ihnen, und solche, die keinerlei Verbrechen schuldig waren, die nichts getan haben was eine solche schreckliche Strafe rechtfertigen könnte!“

Er sagt, dass er später einen Traum sah, in dem ein Mann ein Buch hielt. Er nahm das Buch, öffnete es und fand folgende poetische Verse darin (hier in ungefährer deutscher Bedeutung):

»Leg‘ sie beiseite deine Einwände, denn weder die Entscheidung liegt bei dir, noch das Urteil über den Fortlauf des Kosmos.

So frage Allah nicht nach Seinen Taten, denn wer auf den tiefen Grund des Meeres stürzt, geht zugrunde.

Ausschließlich zu Ihm kehren die Angelegenheiten seiner Diener zurück; so leg‘ beiseite deine Einwände – wie unglaublich ahnungslos du doch bist.«
