Wer sich etwas genauer mit den Judentum befasst, der wird früher oder später auf diesen Namen stoßen: Abū ‘Imrān Mūsā ibn ‘Ubaidallāh Maimūn al-Qurtubī auch bekannt unter den Namen Mosche ben Maimon, aber gewiss am bekanntesten unter der latinisierten Form seines Namens Moses Maimonides und unter den Juden bekannt unter dem Kürzel RaMbaM (Rabbi Mosche ben Maimon).

Der Rang dieses jüdischen Gelehrten unter den Juden ist einmalig. Er lebte in der Zeit zwischen 1135–1204 n. chr. Zeitr., zuerst in Cordoba (Al-Andalus/Spanien) wo er auch geboren wurde, später dann in Fustat/Kairo (Ägypten). Die Verehrung, die diesem Gelehrten entgegengebracht wurde, drückt sich auch in einer damals kursierenden Redensart aus:

“Von Moses (dem Propheten) bis Moses (Maimonides ) gab es keinen wie Moses!”

Die meiste Zeit seines Lebens verbrachte er unter der Herrschaft muslimischer Khalifen und zu Zeiten seines Aufenthaltes in Fustat/Kairo brachte er es gar zum Berater und Leibarzt des Sultans von Ägypten, Salahudin ibn Ayyub. Die meisten seiner religiösen Werke verfasste er in arabischer Sprache, einige wenige aber auch in hebräisch. Von diesem Gelehrten stammen die sogenannten “13 Glaubensgrundsätze”, die bis heute in den Synagogen der Juden rezitiert werden und von den Juden als ihre Aqida verstanden werden. Im folgenden die Übertragung der 13 Glaubensgrundsätze in die deutsche Sprache mit einer kurzen Einführung von Leo Hirsch:

“Es ist nicht Pflicht, aber ein guter Brauch, daß jeder Jude an jedem Tage die dreizehn Glaubensartikel, in die der große Maimonides (1135-1204) den Extrakt des jüdischen Glaubens faßte, und die biblischen Zehn Gebote lese.”

Die Glaubensartikel lauten:

1. Ich glaube mit voller Überzeugung, daß der Schöpfer, gepriesen sei sein Name, jegliche Kreatur schafft und lenkt und daß er allein der Urheber alles dessen ist, was geschah, geschieht und geschehen wird.

2. Ich glaube mit voller Überzeugung, daß der Schöpfer, gepriesen sei sein Name, einzig ist und daß es keine Einheit seinesgleichen gibt, in keinerlei Hinsicht, und daß er allein unser Gott war, ist und sein wird.

3. Ich glaube mit voller Überzeugung, daß der Schöpfer, gepriesen sei sein Name, unkörperlich ist und frei von jeder Möglichkeit, materiell vorgestellt zu werden; und daß ihm auch keine Gestalt beigelegt werden kann.

4. Ich glaube mit voller Überzeugung, daß der Schöpfer, gepriesen sei sein Name, Anfang und Ende ist.

5. Ich glaube mit voller Überzeugung, daß der Schöpfer, gepriesen sei sein Name, allein es ist, dem Anbetung gebührt, und daß es ungebührlich ist, außer ihm ein Wesen anzubeten.

6. Ich glaube mit voller Überzeugung, daß die Worte der Propheten alle wahrhaftig sind.

7. Ich glaube mit voller Überzeugung, daß die Kündung unseres Lehrers Moses, Friede ihm, die Wahrheit und daß er von allen Propheten, früheren wie späteren, der Vater war.

8. Ich glaube mit voller Überzeugung, daß diese Thora, wie wir sie jetzt besitzen, die gleiche ist, die unserem Lehrer Moses übergeben wurde.

9. Ich glaube mit voller Überzeugung, daß diese Thora unverwechselbar ist und daß es nie eine andere Lehre vom Schöpfer her, gepriesen sei sein Name, geben wird.

10. Ich glaube mit voller Überzeugung, daß der Schöpfer, gepriesen sei sein Name, alles Tun und jegliches Trachten der Menschen kennt, wie es heißt: Er, der ihre Herzen ganz und gar gebildet, Er weiß auch all ihr Tun.

11. Ich glaube mit voller Überzeugung, daß der Schöpfer, gepriesen sei sein Name, wohl vergilt all denen, die seine Gebote erfüllen, und übel tut denen, die seine Gebote brechen.

12. Ich glaube mit voller Überzeugung, daß der Messias kommt, und ungeachtet seines langen Ausbleibens erwarte ich täglich seine Ankunft.

13. Ich glaube mit voller Überzeugung, daß einst zu seiner Zeit, wenn es dem Schöpfer, gepriesen sei sein Name und erhoben sein Gedenken immer und ewig, wohl gefällt, die Toten auferstehen werden.
