Wenn dieser Indikator jedoch hinzugefügt würde, erscheint die vergleichende Darstellung demokratisch-republikanischer Regierung noch schlechter, nicht besser. Zusätzlich zu wachsender Ausbeutung und sozialem Verfall hat der Übergang von der Monarchie zur Demokratie den Wandel vom eingeschränkten zum totalen Krieg mit sich gebracht. Das 20. Jahrhundert, das Zeitalter der Demokratie, gehört auch zu den mörderischsten Perioden der gesamten Geschichte.“
