His bemused friends held him a farewell party. They all agreed Bodley would be back in six weeks; Bodley did not return for seven years.“
In seinem Buch The Messenger (1946) berichtete RVC Bodley folgende Begebenheiten aus dieser Zeit (die Übersetzung stammt aus dem Buch La Tahzan / Sei nicht traurig):

Wir haben noch vierzig Prozent unseres Bestandes und wir sind der Lage, von vom anzufangen.‘ […].Als wir mit einem Auto durch die Wüste gereist sind, hatten wir einen platten Reifen und zu allem Überfluss hatte der Fahrer vergessen, einen Ersatzreifen mitzunehmen. Mich überkam Wut und ich beunruhigte mich sehr. Ich fragte meine arabischen Begleiter, was wir jetzt tun würden. Sie erinnerten mich gelassen daran, dass uns die Wut in dieser Situation nicht helfen kann, sondern sie eher verschlimmern würde. Wir fuhren in einem entsetzlich langsamen Tempo, mit drei guten und einem platten Reifen. Nachdem ich sieben Jahre mit den Nomaden in der Wüste verbracht habe, wurde ich vollständig davon überzeugt, dass die weitverbreiteten europäischen und amerikanischen Probleme des Alkoholismus, der psychischen Erkrankungen bzw. der Depressionen die Folgen eines hektischen Stadtlebens sind. […].Ich empfand niemals Stress, als ich in der Wüste lebte. Ich spürte, dass ich in Gottes Paradies war. Ich fühlte, dass ich Frieden, Ruhe und Zufriedenheit entdeckt hatte.
